September is Accounting Month for the Mirex Marketing blog. Accounting, bookkeeping and taxes are probably some of the most boring topics for non-numbers people. Yet, if you want to run a business, you have to be able to manage the money to achieve success and growth. Businesses are in business to make a profit. Even non-profit organizations must manage their accounting properly to avoid failure. If you’re not making a profit, then your business needs to change. And the only way you’ll know if the changes need to made is if you practice proper accounting and bookkeeping. Also, one of the best motivations for starting your own business is the tax benefits that come with owning a business that are not available to the common employee.

At the very least, if you read this blog throughout the month, you’ll know what the three financial statements for most businesses are and you’ll know how to perform bookkeeping. That’s the minimum goal for this month. An even better goal is to have a better understanding of what is tax-deductible for you as a business owner so that you can maximize your tax savings.

So why would a marketing website and blog be concerned with accounting enough to dedicate an entire month to it? It’s simple. We like to see good businesses succeed! (It also makes sense that a company who targets business owners would create content that business owners can use).
